    Discussing Fabrics and Buying Information

Having an eye for style and color aren’t the only things to consider when judging fabric selection for your next project. Here are a few questions you may want to ask before you choose the materials to be used for your next furniture restoration job:

    • How long will the fabric stay new looking?
    • Is the fabric colorfast?
    • Is this print (or plaid or stripe) fabric available with a matched dye option in other solids or designs?
    • Has the fabric been tested for wear and lasting beauty?
    • Does the fabric have a cloth or foam backing to prevent it from tearing?
    • How do I clean the fabric if something is spilled on it?
    • Does the fabric have a soil resistant finish to make it easier to clean? If not, may I order it, & what is the additional charge?
    • What are the high-performance fabrics you have available?
    • What is the fiber content of the textile?

Questions you may be asked when choosing fabric:upholstery rochester il

    • Do you have children, and how old are they?
    • Are the adults in your family large, small or medium size?
    • What kind of pets do you have?
    • Will the furniture be exposed to direct sunlight?
    • Are you replacing existing furniture, are you looking for quality, durability, range of price?

All of these questions will help you get your money’s worth and provide you with information needed to attain satisfaction and confidence in your purchase. Approximately 72% of customers will visit websites before visiting the retail store.  Unfortunately, buying furniture online means you won’t have access to a knowledgeable professional that can help you answer all of the questions above.

At The Furniture Den, we can answer and make recommendations to these questions based on our knowledge of the industry.  Did you know that a patterned fabric will hide the evidence of such things as pet hair or children’s rough and tumbling better than a solid?  Chairs, mattresses, recliners, and other furniture sold here are weight tested and structured accordingly.  Fabrics are tested for ware by a double rub system; a rolling mechanical arm passes back and forth keeping count, the higher the number, the better resilience to fabric failure. Also, UV protections are incorporated in the stain resistant treatments to offer longevity to the beauty, and this treatment is not provided by the Manufacturer. There are DIY spray treatments in the market but, it is not the same formula as available in the furniture retail, which guarantees a lifetime warranty of stain resistant peace of mind.

Finally, in closing my discussion on fabrics, I am so excited to announce that we have launched our own brand of fabrics that include lots of complementary solids and patterns.  Also, our inventory includes a beautiful block of breathable vinyl that is so soft, you’ll be able to tell the level of comfort.  No more stick to the seat, cold-in-the-winter and hot-in-the-summer vinyl.  Fabrics under The Furniture Den label bring multiple shades of color and tones, in patterns for today’s modern style.   I hope you find the above questions can be a simple method to attain lasting beauty, function and endurance of your upholstered furniture when those choices are made based on your specific household needs.

Our Feature Presentation are the seats and door panels from a classic ’55 Chevy – this is truly an update.  Our customer wanted color to match the new blue paint finish.  We carefully removed the darker blue/green seat covers and returned them to our customer.   To our surprise, the original green 1955 seat fabric thread tangled mass was beneath it.   That’s not something we usually see lurking around in there.  Our shop does not cover up existing fabrics; it’s not routine to leave old fabric no matter the condition and just cover new on top of it. That’s a slipcover that covers over, not re-upholstery.  The seat foam was decrepit, smelly crusted dead with no bounce only foam!  The frame and support metal is intact, no welding necessary, and new woven straps were laced back into the springs to keep them straight with even pressure.   With the new covers and foam, it is looking beautiful.   Yes, there is such a thing as Happy and Beautiful Blues.

Thank you for visiting.  Next Month for our Intro, let’s take a look at outdoor lounging.  Great items on the market and oh how the market wants to play it up.  Our Feature Story is a Pontoon boat in neutral with black, doesn’t sound like great colors for a boat, but wait till you see what Gary did when the owner gave him the freedom to design it… herein are The Expressful Elements of Dawn Dodd
